HTV Silicone Rubber vs. RTV Silicone Rubber

Silicone rubber is commonly classified by curing method.

The main categories are:

1. High-Temperature-Vulcanizing Silicone (HTV)
A high-molecular-weight semisolid rubber with molding and curing processes similar to conventional rubber.

The raw material is an unshaped, putty-like compound. Molding requires temperatures of around 160°C. A mold is used to achieve precise geometry and dimensions, so HTV is also known as molded silicone. Typical products include silicone keypads, seals, and protective sleeves.

2. Room-Temperature-Vulcanizing Silicone (RTV)
A low-molecular-weight liquid rubber that cures at ambient temperature.

RTV is usually liquid and begins curing upon exposure to air. Curing can take place at room temperature without additional heat or a mold. Typical products include flexible adhesives, silicone bonding adhesives, thermally conductive adhesives, and potting compounds.
